Validation

I was looking through The High Road today, and I stumbled across an article that came down like a lightning bolt from heaven and validated everything I have ever said about being prepared for the unexpected, gun wise.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,314134,00.html

Thats right, naysayers, ninjas. In broad daylight, this guy was robbed by not one, not two, but THREE ninjas. Are you prepared to deal with three ninjas? Guess what, suckers? I am!!! Not only am I prepared to repel three ninjas, I have enough ammo to see me through one or more of the following occurences:

1. Attack by up to 15 ninjas.
2. Attack by up to 5 pirates.
3. Attack by up to 75 Lumberjacks.
4. Attack by 1500 Zombies.
5. Attack by the entire "Raider nation"

I don't ever want anyone to suggest I wear a foil hat ever again after reading this article, because clearly I am right to be worried about Ninjas.

Silly Scots...

So, I got this little nugget of humor off of Neatorama: Scotland recently spent close to 12,500 pounds (frustratingly, I don't know how to do the "pound" symbol) to develop a new slogan for the country. After the money was spent and the dust had cleared, you know what the new slogan is?

"Welcome to Scotland".

Lest you think I jest, here is the link to the article:

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/2007/11/28/scotland-s-new-125k-slogan-welcome-to-scotland-86908-20170094/

If you opt not to read the article, the bulk of the money was spent on materials and placement as opposed to development, but it is still pretty funny to me that the absolute best thing that the Scots could come up with is "Welcome to Scotland". My personal suggestion would have been "HEAD! PANTS! NOW!", which a select few of you will get and find funny.

Bleh.

It occurs to me that more interesting stuff needs to happen. I am so sick of turning on the news and listening to stories about the war, or the Democrat/Republican battle for the white house, or pedophilac priests, or whatever. Even the sanctuary of sports, which admittedly have always had a fair share of controversy, have become depressing. Steroids, murdered athletes, rapey athletes, the whole bunch. Basically, it all sucks, and I am sick of it.

What we need, desperately, is for something cool to happen. Something that can refocus the human spirit, redirect our energies in a positive direction, and bring hope to the masses. What we need, friends, is Wyld Stallionz.

Perhaps you don't remember one of the greatest movies ever made, "Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure". If you don't, you've probably been living under a rock, but here is the basic thrust of the story. Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted "Theodore" Logan form a band (Wyld Stallionz) that eventually goes on to rescue humanity from itself. There was a little time travel involved, plus George Carlin, but in the end, it was all about the rocking. Assuredly, rocking will save us.

On a side note, once I become a full time history teacher, I plan on emulating two things that I got from the movie. First, my finals will be in the form of a speech given in front of the entire student body, and secondly, I will allow students to perform laser shows. In fact, I am going to take it one step further and demand that students perform laser shows. History is the coolest, but everything could use a little zazz and laser shows are the zazziest things there are.

Chuck D drops the lyrical.

Online gaming is for dorks

Online gaming is pretty nerdy, and it is even nerdier that I am writing this as I wait for my sweet level 34 Elf hunter to finish riding a horse to a mythical place called Tinnudin. Whatever, man. It's fun, it's cheap entertainment, and it justifies the giant monitor I bought like nothing else. It's funny to me that the Internet, as wonderful a tool for communication and global understanding as you can imagine, has basically become nothing more than a fancy Atari for me.

Speaking of Atari, those were the days...

I heart the second amendment.

Everyone who knows me knows that I love the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. I am a staunch supporter of the right to bear arms, and an avid shooter and collector of firearms.

With that being said, Let me list my five favorite guns, in no particular order, and why I like them. You may disagree, and if you want to go through life being wrong all the time, fine.

1. Ruger MkII - I specifically like the MkII, and I even more specifically like the MkII with the bull barrel. Shooting a .22 handgun is very fun, and while there are other .22 handguns that are good, this one happens to be my favorite, and it is very, very unlikely that I will ever be without at least one.

2. Ruger 10/22 - The stock 10/22 works fine for me, although it certainly has it's critics. Whatever. The 10/22 has more aftermarket options that any other firearm you can name, has a superior rotary magazine, and has pretty good factory sights. If you don't like 10/22's, your probably wearing square glasses and listening to the latest Franz Ferdinand album on your iPod.

3. Springfield 03-A3 - The Springfield 1903 rifle is a fine rifle, I just happen to prefer the aperture sights of the 03-A3. I like the caliber (.30-06) and I like the way the rifle feels. Additionally, they are pretty accurate. Really, there isn't much not to like about these rifles.

4. 1911 - Sigh... As much as I complain about the ridiculous amount of praise that the 1911 gets, and as much as I hate the trendiness and over-inflated prices of the 1911, I have to admit that it is a gun I very much like. It's got a good feel in the hand, and properly set-up, they are just a joy to shoot. I happen to own a Taurus PT1911, which has a couple of features that I consider key to an enjoyable shooting experience: Beavertail grip safety and good sights. Without the beavertail, I get bit every time the slide comes back, which sucks. Anyway, my Taurus represents about the perfect 1911 for me, and has brought me, kicking and screaming, into the 1911 fold, although I still don't think that they are the pinnacle of pistol design.

5. Remington 870 - I will go to my grave arguing that the 870 is the best all around shotgun of all time. I really can't say much more past that, because that's just how it is. If you don't like 870's, there has to be something wrong with you.

Honorable Mention - Mosin Nagant 91/30. These Russian mil-surp rifles are super cheap (around $125 dollars), kind of ugly, and fairly heavy, yet I love them dearly. Why? Simplicity of design, a good cartridge (7.62x54r, very close ballistically to the .30-06), and fun to shoot due to a loud boom and a pretty impressive fireball. Did I also mention that they are very cheap to shoot? Ammo prices seem to be going up, but if you look, you can still find rounds for around 12 cents a round, making it about the cheapest centerfire rifle ammo around. Accuracy is workmanlike, which is good enough for most purposes.

Anyway, those are my top 5 favorites. I own more and different guns than these, but these happen to be my favorite.

Test

Since I am new to the blogspot format, this is simply a test run to see how everything works. Granted, it is a pretty awesome test run, but that's still all it is.
